Galgate sits about three miles south of Lancaster, just south of Lancaster University, with the A6 running north to south through the middle of the village and M6 junction 33 close by. It is an easy run for us.

The university is the single most important thing about clearance work here. A lot of the housing is let to students, so turnover is concentrated around the academic year, shared houses generate mixed loads of furniture and belongings at once, and end-of-tenancy deadlines are real deadlines. The village has real industrial history — a silk mill from 1792 is said to be the first mechanical silk mill built in England, with a five-storey brick mill added in 1851. The Lancaster Canal runs through with a marina, and a railway viaduct crosses overhead; both restrict vehicle access in places.
